11.2.1.1. — Construction Index and Hazard Index

(1) Where proposed construction will result in the change of major occupancy of all or part of an existing building to another major occupancy, the building shall be classified as to its,

(a) construction on the basis of construction index as provided for in this Part including Table 11.2.1.1.A., and

(b) occupancy on the basis of hazard index as provided for in this Part including Tables 11.2.1.1.B. to 11.2.1.1.N.

(2) Small or medium sized existing buildings as determined in Tables 11.2.1.1.B. to 11.2.1.1.N. facing multiple streets may be assigned a hazard index credit of 1, which may be subtracted from the hazard index of the proposed major occupancy to reduce the additional upgrading required by Table 11.4.3.4.A.v1v2 provided,

(a) the building does not contain a Group B, Division 1; a Group C, or a Group F, Division 1 occupancy, and

(b) fire fighting access complying with Articles 3.2.5.1., 3.2.5.2., 3.2.5.3., 3.2.5.4. and 3.2.5.5. or Subsection 9.10.20..

(3) The requirements of Articles 3.2.2.20. to 3.2.2.83. do not apply to this Part.

Editor's note

In this version, Sentence (2)(b) of this article ends 'Subsection 9.10.20..' with a doubled period - the period of the article reference '9.10.20.' immediately followed by the sentence-ending period. (We did omit the comma left in by the directive.) The e-Laws consolidation collapses these into a single period; that editorial change was not enacted by any amending regulation, and this map does not reproduce it. The table-note presentation differences noted for the prior version also apply here.

Strike override gazette quoted 'or an approved alternative measure is provided from all streets ' but source contained 'or an approved alternative measure, is provided from all streets' — Gazette quoted the phrase plain, but the source carries inline italics around 'alternative measure' and 'streets' and a comma after 'measure' that the quote omits, so no match layer finds it. Pinning the strike to the source bytes lets the enacted deletion (this clause strikes the phrase with an empty substitute) apply. Note: the e-Laws consolidation additionally removes the now-orphaned comma after 'Subsection 9.10.20.'; that residual is an editorial cleanup enacted by no regulation and is handled by the parity allowlist, not this override.
Note As filed, the footnote markers in the notes of Table-11.2.1.1.B., Table-11.2.1.1.C., Table-11.2.1.1.D., Table-11.2.1.1.E., Table-11.2.1.1.F., Table-11.2.1.1.G., Table-11.2.1.1.H., Table-11.2.1.1.J., Table-11.2.1.1.K., Table-11.2.1.1.M., Table-11.2.1.1.N. are set with a following space (e.g. '(5) "N" is…'); the e-Laws consolidation renders them without it. The note text is otherwise identical between the two renderings.
