Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 19, 2026
This website ("the Service"), operated by CodeChronicle Corp. ("we", "us"), provides search and reference access to building codes and related regulatory materials.
Information We Collect
Account Information
- Email address (if you create an account)
- A record of your acceptance of our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy — the version accepted, the date and time, and the IP address and browser used — kept as proof of agreement
Usage Data
- Search queries
- Pages and provisions viewed
- Timestamps and frequency of use
- Basic technical information (IP address, browser type)
This data is used to improve coverage, accuracy, and performance of the Service. Search queries are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to interpret them into structured search parameters; under our agreement with Anthropic, they are not used to train AI models.
Which Provisions You Open
If you are signed in, we keep a record of the provisions your account opens — the edition, the provision number, the version, and when you first and last opened it. If you use the API, the same record is kept for the provisions your key fetches.
- We use it to see which parts of the corpus are used, and to decide what to verify and expand next
- We use it to check compliance with the Acceptable Use rules in our Terms of Service — those rules forbid systematic or bulk retrieval, and this record is how we can tell
- We do not use it to advertise to you, and we do not sell or share it
- If your employer pays for your account, we do not report your individual reading to them
We keep this record for up to two years, and then delete it. We do not keep a reading record for visitors who are not signed in.
Requests and Corrections You Send Us
If you tell us which code or edition you need, or report that a provision looks wrong, we record what you wrote, your IP address, and the date. You may include an email address, but you do not have to — leaving it blank still records your request, and we treat the request itself as the useful part.
- We use the request to decide which codes and editions to add next
- We use the address, if you give one, only to answer you about that request — to tell you when the edition is available, or what we did about the correction you reported
- We do not add the address to a mailing list, and we do not use it to advertise to you
- We do not sell or share it — see Data Sharing, below
We keep these records for up to two years, and delete the email address sooner if you ask. Write to [email protected] and name the request.
Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe. Payment details such as card numbers are provided directly to Stripe and are never stored on our servers; we retain only your subscription status and billing metadata. Stripe's handling of your information is described in its own privacy policy.
How We Use Information
We use collected information to:
- Operate and maintain the Service
- Improve search results and coverage
- Understand how the Service is used
- Communicate about access, updates, or support requests
- Check compliance with the Acceptable Use rules in our Terms of Service
We do not sell personal data.
Data Sharing
We may share data:
- With service providers necessary to operate the Service, currently including Google Cloud (hosting), Neon (database hosting), Stripe (payment processing), and Anthropic (search query interpretation)
- If required by law
Aggregated or anonymized usage data may be used for analytics and reporting.
Where Data Is Stored
The Service is hosted on infrastructure located in the United States. Your information may be stored and processed outside Canada and may be subject to the laws of the jurisdictions where it is held.
Cookies
The Service uses only essential cookies — the session and security cookies needed for sign-in and form protection. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Data Retention
We retain account and usage data as long as necessary to operate and improve the Service, unless deletion is requested.
Requests and corrections you send us, and any email address you attach to one, are kept for up to two years and then deleted. You may ask us to remove the address sooner.
The record of which provisions your account opens is kept for up to two years and then deleted.
One exception: records of your acceptance of our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy (the version accepted, the date and time, and the IP address and browser used) are kept as evidence of the agreement under which the Service was provided to you. These may be retained after your account is deleted, for as long as needed to establish those terms or to comply with legal obligations.
Your Rights
You may request:
- Access to your personal data
- Correction of inaccurate personal data
- Deletion of your account and associated data (except a limited record of your acceptance of our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and anything we are required to retain by law, as described under Data Retention)
Limitations
This Service is provided for research and informational purposes only and does not replace official code publications.
